Description
The perfect gift for anyone who loves Nantucket, whaling or literary history, or who still appreciates the art of pen and ink or calligraphy. Our Nantucket and whaling themed “scrimshaw” pen box is engraved with a whaling ship and mermaids and refers to Captain Pollard of Nantucket. Pollard owned two whalers, one of which was sunk by a sperm whale, and which was the inspiration for Herman Melville’s Moby Dick. This writing set makes an elegant desk accessory for home or office.
Begun by sailors working on whaling ships out of New England, scrimshaw may be the only art form that originated in America. Our scrimshaw is created by engraving varying designs on genuine ox bone.
